Myth: My site is currently ranked number one therefore I don't need to change my strategy.

Fact: Your site may not be targetting proper keywords that are most profitable. Your site maybe targetting only narrow slice of keyword phrases in your industry. It is often more profitable to rank for wider array of keywords and rank in top 10 than it is to rank # 1 for one keyword phrase that people do not search often.

Myth: I have built my website and now ready for SEO to work on it.

Fact: Site architecture or how site is laid and pages are cross linked is very important when trying to rank well in search engines. If a site is already built but not properly designed to rank well in search engines, then you may have to redesign parts of your site. The best time to consult with SEO is when you are ready to build your site.

Myth: Links from bad sites are hurting my ranks

Fact: Incoming links from bad sites do not hurt your rankings. If it did, then you could simply spam your competition site links and get them banned. However, links from your site to bad sites will often have negative effect on your site's ranking.
